Semiconductor component manufacturer Pallidus is no longer relocating its headquarters and manufacturing operations from Albany, New York, to Rock Hill, South Carolina, Lisa Brown, economic and urban development director for Rock Hill, confirmed in an email to Manufacturing Dive.
The company formerly announced plans in February 2023 to invest $443 million in a 300,000-square-foot facility in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The investment would have created over 400 jobs and production was expected to begin in Q3 2023.
“We’re looking toward future recruitment efforts for the Waterford site and others,” Brown said in a statement. “We have a lot to offer business headquarters, with valuable transportation and utility infrastructure, along with a high-quality workforce to support a variety of industry types.”
Pallidus and the York County Economic Development did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Pallidus is not the only semiconductor component manufacturer that has scrapped plans for a new facility.
Chipmaker SkyWater Technology also canceled plans to build a $1.8 billion semiconductor facility in West Lafayette, Indiana, The Minnesota Star Tribune reported in April.
SkyWater initially announced the project in 2022 and was a public-private partnership with the state and Purdue University. Had the deal gone through, the production and research and development facility would have been located in Purdue’s Discovery Park District. Other manufacturers such as automaker Rolls Royce and defense contractor Saab have facilities at the hub as well.
