OTICS USA is investing $147 million toward expanding manufacturing operations at its headquarters in Morristown, Tennessee, according to a March 2 press release.
The investment will add 70 jobs and 55,000 square feet of space, which will increase the auto part supplier's fuel pipe capabilities production as its business grows, according to the press release. OTICS USA produces engine components and suspension parts for auto manufacturers, its website says.
The investment marks the fourth expansion of the Morristown facility, Charlotte Jennelle, general manager and division head at OTICS USA, said in a statement.
OTICS USA did not immediately respond to a request for comment on when construction and operations are expected to begin. However, Construction Journal reported construction is expected to begin in September.
The engine component and suspension part supplier’s expansion adds to the list of auto industry projects in the works in Tennessee.
Many of the recent investments are related to manufacturing electric vehicles. Ford broke ground on its $5.6 billion electric vehicle plant in Tennessee last year, for example. Meanwhile, suppliers Ultium Cells and LG Chem are planning to build new battery and cathode manufacturing facilities in the state, respectively.
“OTICS USA’s expansion in Morristown is a testament to our state’s rich history in the automotive industry,” said Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart McWhorter. “We stand ready to support this global brand so that it continues to succeed in the Volunteer State.”
