Boeing has issued another round of layoffs in California and South Carolina, beginning Feb. 21, 2025.
Boeing’s Charleston, South Carolina, site will cut 67 employees, according to the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act post. The second round adds to the 220 layoffs in November.
The aircraft maker also disclosed another 55 job cuts in California, which will start in February as well, according to the state’s WARN post. Last month, the company revealed plans for 534 layoffs at 16 sites in the state.
The posted announcements add to layoffs in Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Florida, Virginia and Arizona, totaling 4,932 pending job cuts across 11 states.
Washington leads Boeing layoff activity among states
California and South Carolina aren’t the only states to see a second round of Boeing layoffs. On Monday, the aircraft maker announced it plans to cut 396 more workers at its Washington facilities. As of Dec. 12, Washington has the largest number of layoffs at 2,595 workers.
More job cuts may come over the next few months to implement Boeing’s plans to reduce its workforce by 10%, roughly 17,000 employees, across locations worldwide. The troubled aircraft titan is cutting costs to retain cash after a nearly two-month workers’ strike and an $8 billion net loss throughout the year.
Union workers are not safe from Boeing’s cuts. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace reported on Dec. 6 that the company issued layoff notices to 222 more union members in Washington. The SPEEA job cuts add to the 438 issued for union positions last month, totaling 660.
